The Story Behind the Artwork
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most recognizable cultural landmarks in the world. Its distinctive white sails have become a symbol of Australia and an architectural masterpiece admired far beyond Sydney Harbour.
This planet holds a very special place in my personal journey.
In 2018, I travelled to Sydney to spend time with my son. Beyond the joy of seeing him again, I was excited to discover a city that had fascinated me for years. Among all its landmarks, the Opera House was the place I wanted to photograph the most.
I knew from the beginning that I wanted to create a planet here.
What I did not expect was how difficult it would be.
Over two days, my son accompanied me as I explored the harbour, testing different viewpoints and compositions. Finding the right location proved far more challenging than anticipated. I made several attempts, walking around the waterfront and studying how the Opera House interacted with the skyline, the harbour and the surrounding architecture.
Little by little, the image revealed itself.
When transformed into a planet, the result surprised me completely. Instead of becoming a purely architectural composition, the artwork took on an almost aquatic character. The curves of the Opera House blended naturally with the harbour, while the skyline seemed to emerge from the water itself.
The colours, reflections and flowing shapes created something far more poetic than I had originally imagined.
Today, Sydney Planet remains one of my favourite creations from the Little Big World collection. It is both a tribute to one of the world's great cultural landmarks and a reminder of a memorable journey shared with my son.
Years later, this artwork completed an unexpected chapter when a collector print was produced and delivered in Australia, allowing Sydney Planet to return home.
