The Story Behind the Artwork

The Opéra de Lyon is one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Originally built in the nineteenth century and redesigned by architect Jean Nouvel, it combines classical architecture with a striking contemporary roof that has become an icon of Lyon’s skyline.

When I created this planet, I was searching for a composition that could bring together several symbols of Lyon in a single artwork. The challenge was not only technical, but also artistic. The Place de la Comédie is constantly busy, and it took several visits before I could capture the scene with the balance and openness I was looking for.

What fascinated me was the relationship between the Opera House, the City Hall and the surrounding public space. Once transformed into a planet, the image revealed something unexpected. The shape seemed to take flight, almost like a bird suspended in the sky above Lyon.

Unlike many of my planets, this artwork is intentionally off-centre. This creative choice allowed the architecture to breathe and gave the final composition a sense of movement and freedom. The result is both architectural and poetic, a miniature world carried by music, imagination and the cultural soul of Lyon.

Planète Opéra celebrates one of the city's most vibrant artistic landmarks and invites the viewer to see a familiar place from an entirely new perspective.
