The Story Behind the Artwork

Dhammikarama Burmese Temple is one of Penang’s most remarkable Buddhist temples. Located in George Town, it is a place of colour, symbolism and devotion, where Burmese architectural details and spiritual figures create a peaceful world within the city.

I discovered this temple during a trip to Malaysia, while visiting Penang with my partner. We explored several Buddhist temples that day, but Dhammikarama Burmese Temple left a particularly strong impression on me.

The temple is composed of different areas, but it was the second courtyard that truly inspired me. At its centre, I found a point that immediately felt right for a Little Big World planet. The space had a natural balance, with architecture, light and spirituality arranged around a quiet central axis.

I had not planned to create a planet that day. I had no tripod with me, but the daylight was strong enough to allow me to photograph the scene handheld. As often happens during travel, the image was born from intuition rather than preparation.

Symbolically, I see in this planet a figure walking toward a brighter and more spiritual future. The composition carries a feeling of movement, hope and inner direction, as if the place itself was opening a path forward.

Today, Dhammikarama Burmese Temple Planet remains one of the most contemplative works in the Little Big World collection. It is a memory of Penang, of travel, and of a moment where architecture and spirituality quietly pointed toward renewal.
